Here's how it works. Every week I post a confession and invite and encourage others to post a confession of their own in the comments.
Confessions can be deep, funny, emotional, hysterical, happy, sad, angry, ranting, thankful, wishful, wistful, regretful, joyful, simple or complex. They can be dreams, regrets, wishes, goals, disappointments or surprises. Confessions can be posted using your name, a clever profile name or anonymously.
For myself, the confession I post will be meant for public knowledge about me. That said, I intend to also anonymously post confessions intermingled among others that I don't necessarily want to be known by family and friends who read.
Today I confess...
that I am addicted to dental floss and dental cleanings.
I'm just back from the dental office where I wish I could spend time each and every month. Over the next couple of days, I'll wear a small hole in the tip of my tongue from constantly feeling my clean teeth with it.
You know how great you feel after a full body, deep tissue massage? That's just how my mouth feels after flossing and even more so after a dental cleaning.
I floss up to 5 times a day and when I floss I usually do two and sometimes three rounds. It's like a full massage for my gums. I even pester the admins at my dental office, asking if I'm due to come in for a cleaning yet.
I lay out on that chair and, if it weren't for the risk of embarrassing myself by choking on my own spit, I could happily fall asleep while my teeth are being cleaned, much as I've done during a long relaxation massage. I find it so relaxing, quiet and "apart" that I have trouble staying awake. It's like a mini vacation where you have no access to email or phones or anything else. There's not much chit-chat-ability when your mouth is being worked on. I lay back, close my eyes and savour the massage my gums get, the hum of busy white noise around me and the rhythmic sensations caused by the hygenist's cleaning motions. It's very akin to being rocked to sleep in my experience.
In fact, I'd much rather go to the dental office than go for a manicure or pedicure. Over and above the relaxing sensations, they let me lay down at the dental office and that's my optimum position for relaxation.
Yes. I am peculiar. I'm an Aquarius. That means I just can't help it.
As always, I welcome comments on my confession.
What about you? Do you love or hate your dentist? Does it relax you or stress you out? Do you have an addiction equally as strange as this one of mine?
